There are 4 categories for the competition:

  • Chicken

  • Ribs

  • Pulled Pork

  • Brisket

The church will provide standard 9" x 9" clam shell container for each submission.  Submission times are as follows:

  • 2:30pm - Chicken

  • 3:00pm - Ribs

  • 3:30pm - Pulled Pork

  • 4:00pm - Brisket

Judging and Scoring

We will follow a slightly modified version of the KCBS judging system.  You will be judged on the following categories

  • Appearance

  • Taste

  • Tenderness

Each submission will be scored by 3 anonymous judges.  Each judge will assign a score of 1 to 9 for each submission (with 9 being the highest).  Each criteria is weighted equally and your total score from all the judges will determine the winner.

Awards

We will recognize the 1st and 2nd place winners in each category.  Each winner will receive a medal.  

Also, for the first time we will be recognizing a Grand Champion.  We will determine the Grand Champion by adding up your total score from all categories.  The cook with the highest score wins. 

The Grand Champion will receive a special trophy (which they get to keep).  They will also receive a traveling trophy which they get to keep for the next year... along with all the bragging rights associated with being the champ!

Rules

I will post a complete set of the rules to this site shortly.  Generally, we will be following the standard KCBS rules.  However, the spirit of this competition is to just have fun.  We are not going to take this event too seriously and will pare back some of the rules that don't really apply to an event like this.  More to come on this topic shortly.
